Volunteers heading out to Glasgow Mela on 20th June
Like every year Islamic Relief is organising its stall in Glasgow Mela. This Mela is one of the biggest events celebrated every year by the South Asian community of Glasgow with traditional music, dance, interactive arts, food and sports.
Islamic Relief Scotland's focus at the Mela will be to raise awareness about its Children’s Campaign. Islamic Relief believes that all children deserve a chance to hope for a bright future and for the opportunity to fulfil their dreams.
Barney and Buzz light-years will be on our stall entertaining the children and giving out free balloons and sweets.
The Islamic Relief stall will have a lot of attractions to people of all ages. Our dedicated volunteers will sell fabulous South Asian dresses, traditional shoes for women, men and children and some costume jewellery on very affordable prices. Also there will be henna art available from an award winning make up artist called Samina Qureshi. We will also be providing balloon modelling and fantastic face painting for all whether it is a fairy, tiger or even a flag representing the World Cup it will be available there.
There will also be several auctions held on behalf of Islamic Relief were goods such as a crystal necklace and earrings kindly donated by Singhar, several phones again kindly donated by Fone & PC World .
But most of all, our stall will provide information about the working of Islamic Relief throughout the world for poor and needy. We are going to show videos of some excellent work done by Islamic Relief throughout the world.
Our stall organisation team in-charge Lubna says “We have a highly skilled and dedicated pool of volunteers and staff that are extremely approachable and I am sure will make everyone present at the stall whether it is clientele or fellow staff member comfortable and have fun”.
Our aim at the Mela is to raise as much money as possible for the Children’s Campaign, along with ensuring that the services that we are providing are of a high standard. This will be maintained by ensuring that our staff, volunteers and clientele are taken care of and happy.
